Andy Dick | Professional Portraiture | Behind The Scenes: Love Cat
Over the past year I have been shooting still photography for my actor / producer / director friend Sonya on her film Love Cat. We have shot all over San Diego from Tipsy Crow in the Gaslamp district to Major Market in the little town of Fallbrook. Being involved in a project like this gives you the opportunity to network and build amazing relationships with talented individuals while creating something special. It was sad to see the film wrap the weekend before Christmas 2013, so many great memories. Love Cat showcases some great actors and actresses, one of which being Andy Dick. In addition to capturing some stills during the filming process, I was given about five minutes to shoot a professional portrait of Andy Dick as well.
Davis Family | San Diego Family Portraiture
I alway enjoy photo shoots involving beautiful families, Baltimore Ravens fans and Bulldogs! This is the second year I’ve been able to spend the afternoon with the Davis Family to shoot some images for their holiday cards. The girls had a little bit more fun this year over last, but they still would have rather just play with other kids, LOL!
Help Portrait | International Rescue Committee | San Diego
This past Saturday December 7th, 2013 was the 3rd year for Help Portrait at the City Heights Farmers’ Market Holiday Bazaar. Again we had the opportunity to team up with the International Rescue Committee and San Diego County Farm Bureau. Not only is this an amazing time to give back to the community but the perfect platform to network with other photographers and community leaders. I took on the role of printing images during the day, but found some time to sneak a couple of portraits of the volunteer photographers and IRC leaders.
Yoga & Massage Media Kit | Lifestyle & Advertising Portraiture
I had the pleasure to shoot a media kit for Chandra the owner of Soma Healing Arts in San Diego. Soma Healing Arts offers massage and yoga services within the San Diego, La Jolla, Carlsbad, Oceanside, Escondido, Kearny Mesa and other surrounding San Diego areas. Chandra requested images that she could use to identify with her yoga and massage clients including some head shots for various social media sources. I made sure that the images demonstrated the vast diversity of Chandra’s skills from massaging to instructing yoga.
Self Portrait | Commercial Photography | Home Studio
The other night, like many nights I troll through the internet looking and admiring other photographers, videographers, artists and their work. Every now and then I have to do a double take and study a portrait or image because I love what has been created. I just happened to stumble across some portraits shot by Allan Amato, specifically a pair of images of Andy Dick. I decided to challenge myself to deconstruct the lighting and rebuild it for a self portrait.
Celebree Learning Centers | Advertising, Marketing & Stock Photography | Baltimore Maryland
Over this past year I had the opportunity to travel to Baltimore Maryland (my home town) and work on a photo campaign for Celebree Learning Centers. I was hired by Celebree’s internet marketing agency JBR Marketing to shoot some new advertising, marketing & stock photography for the company since they were in the middle of a marketing blitz and rebranding. I spent about four days in eight of their twenty locations around Maryland shooting everything that would build a strong stock inventory of images for Celebree including head shots of the President / CEO Richard Huffman.
Professional Speaker Series | San Diego City College | Keynote Tim Mantoani
I was given the opportunity to discuss my journey in photography for an hour at the Professional Speaker Series hosted by San Diego City College with keynote speaker and commercial photographer Tim Mantoani. This was an exciting chance for me to discuss something other than off camera lighting, which I love to talk about and teach with other photographers. This was the first time I truly looked back in my journey and really got an idea of who and what shaped my passion for photography along the way. In an unexpected way this reflection gave me a huge boost and rejuvenated my creative juices. During the presentation I talked about the people and cameras that influenced my photography along this journey, the importance of minimalism and the strength of networking.
Corporate Head Shots | Environmental Portraits
Some of my favorites shoots are the ones you don’t expect or plan and barley have any time. I was on assignment for a local medical group, they needed head shots for a new physician to update their website. While I was there setting up in an office for the head shots, (which was a basic three light setup) their marketing person came in requesting an environmental portrait for a press release. After brainstorming for about a minute we deciding on shooting in front of the new MRI machine; I only had six minutes to setup and get the shot before the room was to be used by a patient.
Photography Gear | Gear Review
I thought I would share one of the pieces of gear that I use to keep me organized. For too long my dining room table was a staging area for all of my photography gear. This ranged from camera bodies, monopods, lenses, batteries, battery chargers, flashes, cables, cords, pocket wizards….the list is endless! The day after I purchased a second Paul Buff Einstein I knew that I would need to have a safe & organized place to store all of my gear. After searching blogs and forums I noticed that many photographers were using a plastic tool box for their gear. I stopped by Home Depot, checked out their tool boxes and left with the Stanley Fatmax.
Amaya & Kaveh | San Clemente Wedding Portraits
The other weekend I reached out to my wedding photographer friend Elana about assisting one of her weddings. I thought since Elana was full term with her pregnancy that it might be a good idea to be available just in case she went into labor while Amaya & Kaveh were getting hitched!
Amaya & Kaveh got married at the beautiful Wedgewood Wedding & Banquet Center in San Clemete, overlooking a golf course and Pacific Ocean. Here are some of my favorites images from that wonderful day with Amaya & Kaveh.
